Dear Santa

December 17, 2013 By Emily 27 Comments

Dear Santa,

I swear we just had a visit from you. You’re back again? How did that happen?

I digress. Already.

Hi Santa! The wonderful Jess over at EssentiallyJess has invited me to share a letter to you. I get to ask you for five things!

Even though she says you’re not real!

Last year, I shared my Christmas wish list on this here blog, and it seemed to work wonders. So yes, Santa, and yes, Jess, let’s do this. Let’s make it happen.

Here’s my 2013 Christmas wish list.

1. Sleep

Sleep. Sigh. Simple enough, surely? I’d like to get more than four hours in a single night. And I’d ideally like that more than four hours to occur in a single stretch.

Seriously, Santa, I’m begging you. I can’t take much more of the no sleep thing. My energy levels are non-existent. My head is pounding more often, and the migraine days are creeping up in number.

And the bags under my eyes are packed and heading south for the summer.

I. Need. Sleep. Please. Santa. Please. *YAWN*

2. Sleep Renovation completion

The inside of the house is pretty much done. There’s need of a touch-up here, a repaint there, a tile fix-up here and a whoops-my-foot-went-through-the-plaster-we-need-a-new-patch-of-ceiling there. But inside is pretty much done. Hooray!

Outside is in progress, with a focus on the front at the moment. One of the things we loved about this house when we purchased it was the large backyard. We knew we could extend while still keeping a decent-sized backyard.

The front yard earlier last year.
It’s less forest-like now.

The backyard a few months ago.
It’s more forest-like now.

But Ashleigh will turn four next year, and has never been allowed into the backyard. Let’s get this backyard finished already! Let’s get a sandpit, a trampoline, and just some grass to play on. Room for the children to play.

The children. Please, won’t someone think of the children?!

3. Sleep A personal hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist

I have no style. Unless a ponytail, a bare face and whatever clothing happens to be cleanest that day are stylish. So hot right now.

It’s not just the lack of time and energy. It’s the memory. I simply forget to plan ahead. To make an effort. One day, after playing ‘hairdresser’ with Ashleigh, I could very well have gone to the supermarket with my hair like this had she not asked if she could take the clips out.

Like I said, so hot right now.

So you can see I’m in dire need of a personal hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist. Portable spotlight and wind machine optional.

(Oh, and I’m happy for all of these roles to be filled by the one person if that makes things easier for you. I’m very thoughtful and accommodating like that. Thanks, Santa.)

4. Sleep Broccoli that tastes like chocolate

So, I haven’t actually mentioned it on the blog yet, but I gave up chocolate last month. Again. It’s been about five weeks since I last sat my backside on the couch and consumed five family-sized blocks a bar of mouth-watering Cadbury deliciousness in one sitting.

I swear it wasn’t ten blocks!

I haven’t completely denied myself this time around. Last time, I quit chocolate cold turkey (and as a snap decision!). No choc chip anythings, no hot chocolates and no desserts with chocolate sprinkles. I didn’t even have a cup of Milo during the six months the ban was in place.

This time I’ve been more kind to myself. When meeting friends for coffee, I’ve had a hot chocolate. I had chocolate ice cream in the freezer when I started the ban, and have allowed myself a scoop or two for dessert occasionally. And if there is chocolate at a party I’m attending, you’d better get in quickly if you want some for yourself.

But for the most part, no chocolate. Oh. How. I. Miss. Chocolate.

Oh. How. I. Wish. More. Things. Tasted. Like. Chocolate.

Like broccoli.

5. Sleep

Did I mention sleep? I can’t remember. I’m too tired.

I. Need. Sleep. Please. Santa. Please. *YAWN*

So, that about sums it up. Thanks, Santa. I really appreciate what you do for us with the goodwill and the happy vibes and entertaining the kids for a few minutes on Christmas Day.

You’re a good sort.

Merry Christmas! When you’re done flying around the world delivering presents, be sure to put your feet up for a while. At least until Boxing Day.

With love and appreciation,
Emily

Do NOT google chocolate broccoli. Scary images out there. Some people run strange experiments in their kitchens!

I just want an airbrusher – then I don’t have to waste time with the stylist and make up artist but everyone thinks I look great anyway….

Interesting! Can they airbrush in real time? Can I have a permanent airbrush cloud around my head? I’ll take it!

I really hope you get some sleep for Christmas! I know you don’t like to mention it, but I could tell the underlying message that you could really use some. LOL! 🙂 Great list! I’d love a personal hairdresser and stylist too. oh to be Princess Kate!

“It would make stir fries taste weird.” This from my friend. I think I could handle not putting broccoli in my stir fry!

Dude I would love that personally stylist! I’m a bit like you, though I do wear makeup to hide the bags, and occasionally do my hair, but for the most part, my style is useless! I really need some serious help!!!

If we lived a little closer (a little? Could we live further apart?!) we could share!

But we don’t. So we can’t. I call dibs!

Sleep, chocolate and someone to help me find my groove as it is stuck somewhere between the mattress, the hall and my bedroom as I walk between three bedrooms in the night to two boys calling out at 3 am . Ever have to deal with a tantrum at 3am? that is where my groove is gone. So in summary our Christmas lists are similar. I hope you get some sleep and you’re broccoli becomes sweeter.

Oh you poor thing. No, I haven’t dealt with a tantrum at that hour. Just a party animal! Wishing you bucketloads of sleep, chocolate and grooviness.

As funny as ever Em, but as for sleep, MEH it’s over rated (says the insomniac) I still only get 5 hours a night and most of that is broken, last night from 12 to 3am I had three with me at one stage, bad dreams, wee in bed, high temps – ARGHHH. I wish you sleep though lovely – and a VERY Merry Christmas if we don’t ‘speak’ before then xxx

Oh man. You make me feel guilty for complaining about the lack of sleep. My little fella is still in his first year of life! I wish you sleep too. x

I agree – broccoli and all things good for us should definitely taste like chocolate. And I haven’t been tagged by anybody, but I’m sharing my Santa letter on the blog on Monday!
