Back in December, the beautiful Jess from EssentiallyJess invited me to share my Christmas wishlist.
I’d done so the year before, asking for what I thought were ridiculously outrageous things, only to have the whole list delivered. (Or as close to delivered as was actually possible, given the non-existence of cleaning fairies and wonder-ointment Cankles BeGone.)
So I did it again. I wrote a Christmas wishlist, and posted it on the blog. I went even crazier than the year before, asking for things like chocolate broccoli and renovation completion.
And here’s how it’s all going so far.
1. Sleep
I am SO happy to give this item a big fat tick. Mitchell now sleeps through the night (thanks in no small part to the April shoulder injury that meant I couldn’t actually hold him – oh, the mother guilt!) and settles quite quickly for his daily naps too. Of which he still has two.
Now to get my writing and blogging happening at sleep-friendly hours instead of waiting until the kids are in bed.
2. Renovation completion
Bar-boom. Not yet. We’re a few steps closer – we’ve had a landscaper out to look at the yard, and our next-door neighbours finally approved the construction of a garage on the property border. But we’re still awaiting actual construction of said garage, and my backyard still looks something like this (but with less sunlight, more straggly weedy growth and more stray cats setting up permanent residence):
3. A personal hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist
Another bar-boom. Either this year is not going as well as last year was, or I was a tad unrealistic with my wishes. Probably the latter.
Unfortunately, no-one has offered me their services for free, and I haven’t won Tattslotto (thanks to the old adage that you’ve got to be in it to win it), so this hasn’t happened. But I do have some fancy schmancy salon shampoo and conditioner now, and I can’t believe the difference it has made to doing my hair in the morning. Less time needed to dry my hair. Less frizz when I’m done. Less hassle. Dagnammit, the hairdressers were right all along!
4. Broccoli that tastes like chocolate
Not so surprisingly, I haven’t found this. But my favourite chocolate flavour is peppermint. Which is green, like broccoli. Same-same.
5. Sleep
How clever of me to include this twice! Santa obviously honed in on this one, ignoring the others, figuring it was better to nail this and get two ticks, than miss them all and get none.
You’re a clever man, Santa. But please tell me you’re working on the others. Please.
What was on your Christmas wishlist? Did your wishes come true?

I hear ya about the sleep. I’m praying my baby that I have in three weeks is a good sleeper. And wouldn’t it be grand to have a hairdresser that could make your hair look awesome everyday? I’d certainly add that to my Christmas list too. 🙂

I hope your bub is a good sleeper! Sending good sleep vibes your way!! And a hairdresser… no, I’m keeping that one for myself. Sorry.

Sleep, a parent’s holy grail, I have 16 years to go until my youngest turns 18, then they can move out so I can sleep through the night hehe
Emily says
HAHA! I’m optimistically (naively?!) hoping for a good night’s sleep before then.

I would say sleep, especially for mom, trumps all the other wishes.
Emily says
YES. Indeed it does.
Kate says
Yay for sleep! I’ve just these last few weeks finally got my toddler sleeping beyond five thirty/six. Seven is a huge win. I’ll even take a six thirty now and then. Eight? He’s done it once and I am so lost! Sleep in? What is that!
Emily says
Now that my bub is consistently going until seven I feel horrible for you reading this!
Sonia LifeLoveandHiccups says
Oh hell yeah for the sleep! That is clearly the trick Em – just ask for the same thing over and over again. I asked for kids that dont argue and throw dog bowls at each other… I should have written it down more than once because clearly Santa thought I was kidding xx
Emily says
That’s it! I just nagged Santa into submission! Love it.
Kelly Exeter says
Ha ha ha. Love it. And I think Santa IS pretty clever in deducing that of all the things on your list, SLEEP is like diamonds 🙂
Emily says
It is. And I know you had your kids sleeping through well before this! Superstar.
