The Best, Best Baby! {Review}

November 7, 2014 By Emily 8 Comments

Ah, blogging. Ah, life. You fickle, fickle things.

Four weeks after announcing I was starting a weekly children’s book review on the blog, I’m finally posting my second one. I’m sure you haven’t all been sitting around in suspense, waiting with bated breath to see what I’ll review, but hey, I can pretend! Here it is! TA-DA!

This week, I’m reviewing my daughter’s latest favourite from the library.

The Best, Best Baby! / Georgie Birkett and Anthea Simmons

(Andersen Presse, 2013)

Oh my. The Best, Best Baby!* is so very cute. And so perfect for our family.

In fact, it’s like reading about our family. I may have to go looking for the cameras that Birkett and Simmons must have installed in our house.

The narrator is a young girl with a baby brother. She tells us what her brother can and can’t do, and all the ways he is silly or annoys her.

But just when it seems there’s nothing good about having a baby brother, he cuddles her and looks at her adoringly, and she realises that she wouldn’t trade him in for anything.

Ashleigh loves this book, and feels the urge to cuddle Mitchell after reading it. Whether he wants to cuddle or not!

The Best, Best Baby!* is simple, but that’s why I like it. It’s so easy to read, and the message is crystal clear. I like it for us now (Ashleigh is four years old, Mitchell 18 months) but also think it would work for older children expecting a new sibling.

    Oh what a cute pic. Ashleigh has a winning smile. We haven’t read that book, but I can see it appealing to Miss Four even though she has a little sister and not brother.

    Naw, gorgeous! Sounds like it’s the perfect book for your littlies. Not that I can call them that for much longer – look how much they’ve grown! Can’t believe Mitchell is already 18 months! You were pregnant just yesterday!

      I can’t believe it either. And I still feel like I was pregnant just yesterday!
