I started to write my goals for this year:
What I want to achieve in my life and career.
The list got long. It got a little scary.
The purpose suddenly seemed contrary.
I chucked it out. I started again,
Shut down the computer and picked up a pen.
Wrote a few lines – just kept it short –
Then distilled it all to a single thought.
—
Have more, own less
Play more, groan less
Laugh more, cry less
Say “wow” more, “why” less
Write more, plan less
Read more, scan less
Speak more, text less
Now more, next less
—
Enjoy most days; endure the rest,
And know that I am doing my best

Each month, I receive a writing prompt as part of a link-up called Writers Reveal. This post was inspired by the prompt ‘goals for 2014’ from Becky at Imagine! Create! Write!
