Our house is currently a renovation bombsite. It will be oh-so-lovely when it’s finished, but it is oh-so-difficult to live in at the moment, and oh-so-frustrating to watch the build.
Cameron is working on it tirelessly and, between work and renovating, hardly gets a break. Superman personified. I miss him, and so does Ashleigh.
But Ashleigh and I certainly don’t miss each other! Cameron not getting a break means that I don’t get a break either. From dawn to dusk, Monday to Sunday, I am generally on Ashleigh duty. Luckily, she’s adorable 90% of the time. But 10% grumpiness can feel like 50% 60% 80% when there is no escape.
Yesterday, Cameron and I attended a wedding while friends babysat Ashleigh. It was wonderful. The wedding itself was beautiful, but the break was everything we needed. We talked (about Ashleigh of course, but also about other things), we laughed, we kissed, and we danced. Yes, we both danced. Cameron on the dancefloor! Alert the media!
Ashleigh had a ball showing off her words and skills to a new audience. Our friends took her to the park, played games, and entertained her with equal measures of excitement and patience, both of which I’ve been lacking recently.
Win-win.
And of course, the best moment of the weekend was seeing the grin on Ashleigh’s face this morning!
