Ashleigh’s laugh is absolutely adorable. Whenever I hear it, my heart seems to grow in my chest and I can’t help smiling. Surely, only good things can come of having that sound as my SMS alert tone?
Um… no. Guess again. When a friend messaged me during Ashleigh’s nap today, I went barrelling into Ashleigh’s room, only to wake her from what I’m sure was a wonderful sleep and send her into crying mode. I couldn’t settle her back down so she came back out into the lounge with me.
We were happily playing when the friend messaged me again. Ashleigh went nuts looking for the other baby in the room. She looked under the couches, in the toybox, and even went into her room to see if the baby was in there. When I followed her, she went under the cot!
For those of you who don’t own cots, please know that they are very low to the floor and that getting anything out from underneath them can be difficult, let alone a living, breathing child who thinks it’s a game and is hell-bent on avoiding your clutches.
I left her there for a while (I had the monitor so could hear her movements). I ducked my head in five minutes later and what did I find? Ashleigh asleep. Under the cot. What’s more difficult than getting a living, breathing child who thinks it’s a game and is hell-bent on avoiding your clutches out from under a cot? Getting a sleeping child who really needs that sleep and who you’re loathe to wake out from under a cot!
She’s still sleeping there now. And I’m currently updating my SMS alert tone…
