Tomorrow is this blog’s anniversary. I’ve been blogging for two years.
Two years! WOOHOO! I have to admit I’m proud of myself for keeping it going this long.
I didn’t have any concrete plans when I started my blog. I still don’t. It is what it is, and it will be what it is or what it becomes.
And it’s becoming something different. Slightly.
You may or may not have noticed a certain structure to my blog posts. When I chose the name You learn something new every day for this blog, I intended to post the lessons learnt. I did not want to stray from this; just one post per day, of the lesson I’d learnt the day prior.
I’ve done that for two years (well, except for that whole one post per day thing). And while it was good to start with a structural rule of sorts, I think it’s run its course. So I’ve decided to change how I blog.
Now I’ll blog about whatever floats my blogging boat. Stories, moments, questions, things I’ve seen, things I’ve heard. News. Opinions. General wonderings. And yes, no doubt I’ll still post the occasional lesson learnt.
It’s that simple. It wasn’t going to be – I was going to rename this blog. ‘Rebrand’ it. New look, new approach, new topics, new labels, new ‘about me’, new tabs, new everything.
It was going to be fabulous. Of course. I was going to launch it all on the blog’s anniversary, all in one move. My loyal readers (hi mum!) were going to swoon, then rise unanimously in a virtual standing ovation. Confetti and balloons were going to fall from the ceiling. (I would have had to put them there myself, but still, it would have been thrilling.)
But no. All of that planning was distracting me from just doing it. So I’m just doing it. New blog style.
So what am I going to blog about? I have NO idea. I, like you, will just have to wait and see what comes.
Do you blog? Has your blogging style evolved since you started?

I just write whatever comes to my mind. I think I have made my posts shorter, and maybe less cranky but basically the same.
Emily says
Maybe a LITTLE bit less cranky. Sometimes.

Shesh, my blog has envolved multiple times, though stuck around the one theme ‘crafting’, I confess I am not the best of bloggers, I can tend to go off track or not blog for weeks. I believe that it’s your blog and you should do what you want! Good Luck!
Emily says
Crafting! Lovely. Heading over for a visit now!
Aroha @ Colours of Sunset says
My blog is a total mishmash of a whole load of things. crap mostly. some politics, some news, some family stuff, some infertility stuff, whatever I feel like spewing forth and getting out of my head to clear space for other crap 🙂 I’m sure whatever you do will be great. x Aroha
Emily says
Thanks Aroha! That’s where mine is heading, methinks.

My blog has undergone numerous facelifts (am even thinking of one as we speak) I think the way I have blogged has as well. I most certainly like to think that as a blogger I have evolved, though having said that I still feel I have a long way to go. Congratulations on the 2 years though, that is a great achievement. Leaving some fairy wishes and butterfly kisses from #teamIBOT
Emily says
Thanks, Rhianna! I’ve learnt a lot in those two years, but still have SOOOO much to learn!

I actually went back and read some of my early blog posts, they were quite hard to read. I originally started my blog about family but it has evolved to being about my life. Good luck with the changes.
Emily says
Thank you! I’ve read the first few – it’s interesting to read them back.

My blog style hasn’t changed much, though my posting frequency has reduced. For some strange reason, having a baby has sucked up my time. It took me a year to get myself together to finalise my new blog design.
Happy blogiversary!! I love your blog and I’m looking forward to reading your new style.
Emily says
Thanks your ladiness! Yeah, those kids really get in the way of this blogging thing, don’t they?!
Jodi Gibson says
Happy blogiversary! And your blog is your space – do what you feel. I’ve had a few blogs over the years and only just found where I think I should be.
Emily says
Thanks Jodi! Love your blog and am glad you’ve found the right space. x
Deb @ home life simplified says
Happy blogaversary – mine evolves as I do so I think that makes sense that blogs will shift as we do. Looking forward to where you are heading, xx
Emily says
Thanks Deb! Love your blog and the journey it’s taken so far – I get so much from your life tips. x

Wow two years what a legend, I’ll have my 1st anniversary in October and hope to have a makeover before then, but I won’t change the way I blog – still write a whole lot of useless crap that probably annoys more than amuses people! I love you posts that are slice of life, and funny – 🙂
Emily says
It certainly amuses me! Looking forward to seeing the makeover, and thanks for the feedback.

It was my 2 year blogging anniversary this year too. My writing has definitely evolved over the last two years and I have changed multiple times. It’s still my voice though and I think that is the most important thing.
Emily says
True. As long as we’re not trying to copy someone else, it’s all good!
Grace says
Oh, happy blogiversary! I love how you write, Em! You always crack me up. You’re just going to go from strength to strength – rebranded or not. Don’t worry to much about the peripherals just keep being your usual, witty, intelligent, fascinating self! xxx
Emily says
That’s so sweet! You’ve just inflated my head so much I won’t fit out the door!
Erin EatPlayBond says
Happy blogoversary! I tried planned structured and regular posts but life tends to get in the wa. I say go with what you want to remember, process or learn from and you will always enjoy it.
Emily says
Thanks, Erin. Great advice.
Ask a Toddler says
Well done Em! My blogging career has only just began over at askatoddler.com but it feels so real and natural. I hope it feels like you’re still making a contribution because you are! Thank you.
Emily says
It does. Ish. More to myself and my family, and that’s the whole point really!
Zoe says
Happy blog anniversary! Two years is such an achievement, I’m very impressed!
I’ve just gone through the re-branding process with my blog and have started a new one, I feel really re-motivated to get back into it, sometimes a change up is just what you need!
I’m really enjoying having a look around your blog and look forward to seeing where it goes. Good luck with it!
Zoe xx
Emily says
Good luck with the change up on yours! I’m hoping to overhaul this whole site by the end of the year, but the blog posts themselves will just have to do for now.
Maxabella says
Happy 2 years, Emily! I think any approach to blogging that makes you feel happy is the best approach. It’s not about the name or the goal – it’s just about the sharing. x
Emily says
Trust you to summarise a whole post eloquently in two sentences. Thanks. x
