So. Bad days. They suck, right? THEY SUCK.
I’ve had a few bad days lately. At least, that’s what they feel like when I’m in the middle of them. Little things build until the little-thing-mountain feels like it’s going to break my back.
Until later, when I realise it was really a little-thing-molehill.
Partly inspired by Emily from Have a Laugh on Me‘s #projectcalmdownmum, and partly inspired by the sarcasm which is a constant presence in my head, I’m rewriting another well-known song. This time around, I’m taking a crack at Daniel Powter’s Bad Day.
Enjoy.
Yeah…
Your family is what it’s all about

My bad days are getting fewer and far between now that I’m starting my day with yoga π Jo x
Emily says
I’ll have to get you to show me some poses!
Carla says
Great song! I think every Mum will be able to relate to it, I certainly can.
Emily says
Thanks lovely.
Renee says
You are so clever at these songs! My last bad day was on the weekend with the kids fighting like cats and dogs over anything and everything. Argh π
Emily says
Thanks Renee. It’s always the smaller things that make you snap, isn’t it? They could argue all day, then when one whispers something mean to the other later on, BANG.
Mumabulous says
Exactly how I feel – everyday until wine o’clock on a Friday afternoon. Loved it.
Emily says
Thanks Mumabs. Around here that’s known as rum o’clock. It’s slowly making a comeback.
Eleise Hale says
Well done, a great rewrite! Some days are just crappy! I love #projectcalmdownmum
Emily says
Me too. Clever Em is onto a winner there.
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
I do look forward to your songs! And nothing wrong with KFC every now and then… You are a great talent Em (thanks for nice words re: Project Calm Down Mum
Emily says
And here is clever Em! Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for Project Calm Down Mum!
Twitchy Sharon says
Nice. Somehow we have not left these completely behind, despite their ages being 14 and 7 and now both in school. How do we even manage to do that? Ah well. There is indeed still take away and freezer dinners, much to my husband’s despair. Sigh. #teamIBOT
Emily says
I imagine that there will always be something – some things? Many things? – that I can point to and whinge about. Time to move on! x
mark @ fullhalfglass says
Very clever. Don’t “dis” the bad days too much. They are a fantastic marker to really appreciate the good ones.
Emily says
They are indeed. Thanks, Mark.
ann says
Hilarious, loved it and now have the song stuck in my head!!
Emily says
Sorry about that! The song in your head part. Not that hilarious part. Feeling a little smug about that, to be honest!
Bec @ The Plumbette says
I so related to this song yesterday. I think a lot of mums would be able to relate. Nice work on rewriting the lyrics. π
Emily says
Thanks Bec! I’ve been relating to this a lot more since injuring myself. Oh well. Sausages in bread for dinner AGAIN is just not the end of the world.
EssentiallyJess says
Oh so awesome. I want to see you singing these songs though π
Emily says
Maybe one day. Maybe. When I can play the piano again!
Jodi Gibson says
Awesome lyrics! My motto? You gotta laugh because if you don’t….you’ll cry!
Emily says
Absolutely! And, fittingly, that was essentially what my first post-it note for Project Calm Down Mum said. Complete circle.
Bron Maxabella says
Clever miss! A little perspective goes a long way, it really does. x
Emily says
Thanks Bron. And yes!
Muvva says
Nicely put!
Emily says
Thank you!
Tegan Churchill says
Love your song rewrites!
Emily says
And I love your love of them! Glad you enjoy.
Lizzy Allan says
Brilliant! This is the new anthem for mums the world over! Particularly liked the line about KFC π My last ‘bad day’ was last week. I couldn’t put my daughter’s port-a-cot together properly and she was so tired and was yelling at me to get her to sleep and I just burst into tears and cried in a ball on the floor for a few minutes. I still didn’t get one of the sides of the cot fully erect, but it was good enough and she got to sleep and I made a cup of tea and went back to feeling like a normal human being π
Emily says
Thanks Lizzy! Portacots. Oh man. I have a mantra I repeat as I’m assembling ours – it’s just a portacot. There are steps. Just breathe. Follow the steps. Start again if you have to. IT WILL NOT DEFEAT YOU!
debsinspirationaljourney says
Nicely written!
Emily says
Thank you!
Grace says
“partially inspired by the sarcasm which is a constant presence in my head..” love it!
Okay, now I want to see a vlog where you’re actually singing it! π
Emily says
Thinking about it! But will have to transpose it. This song goes over my break. Hats off to Daniel Powter. It ain’t easy!
Cybele @ BlahBlah says
I’m with Grace. Sing it, sing it sing it! x
Emily says
Thanks! And see above π
Redcliffe Style says
So clever!! I love it. Rachel x
Emily says
Thanks Rach!

If you and your child are safe, fed and asleep at the end of the day, I call that a win π
Emily says
Ditto. And if you still have your voice, you can’t have yelled THAT much.

Gets better every time I read it! I’ve had a bad day, so glad that I have kid-free day tomorrow!! Thanks for linking π
Emily says
Thanks for stopping by again! You take your linking duties very seriously π
Vanessa says
Ooh, I’ll put some thought into this and see if I can come up with a different song for you to try.
Emily says
Please do! I have a few ideas but I’m here for the people after all π
Denise Mooney says
I love your version of the song. I’ve bookmarked it for my next bad day #projectcalmdownmum x
Emily says
Aw, thanks!
Kylie Purtell says
Nice work Em. At first I had no idea what song you were doing until I got to the chorus and then I was all “I know this song!”. So that says a lot about how well you did it! Now I am desperately thinking of songs for you to do. Have you done “Somebody that I used to know” yet, is that why it’s popped in to my head, because you did that one. Man I think I need to go to bed!
Emily says
Thanks! And that’s a good one. No, I haven’t done that one yet. I’ll have to think of the best person to apply it to… perhaps the subject of today’s blog post in fact! Whoops.
